In real acts of Jagmohan Malhotra are still in controversies. He become the governor of Kashmir in two stints. His role was crucial and restless. The time CM of the Kashmir resigned overnight. He took the courage and went back to Kashmir as Governor and impose Governor’s rule in Kashmir so that army can deployed and militants can be captured. Later on he wrote a book, My The Frozen Turbulence in Kashmir about the events of exodus and mass killing of Kahmiri Pandits.
Bitta Karate as Faruq Malik Bitta

Bitta Karate is the cruelest character in the Exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. In one of the interviews with a journalist, he agreed with the fact that he killed 20-25 innocent Kashmiri Pandit in 1990. He would show no mercy to his real brother or mother if he was ordered to kill them. He further admitted how he killed Satish Kumar Tickoo (His first killing) with the gun and started the bloodshed in the Kashmir Valley. The more disturbing fact is that terrorist like Bitta Karate who had openly agreed to killings being done by him and told he deserved to hang till death is still alive. Currently, he is the chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF).
Nivedita Menon as Radhika Menon

Radhika Menon is a Professor at ANU. It was played by Pallavi Joshi who is also the wife of The director Vivek Agnihotri. Based on the facts and documents available in the public domain, this character is inspired by a real professor at JNU, Delhi Nivedita Menon. It is found from the videos she has delivered, Nivedita believes Kashmir is not an integral part of India and is an autonomous country that needs to be free from India. She has led campaigns called ‘Free Kashmir’ and believes Exodus of Kahimiri Pandits is fake propaganda by Government. During a speech, she once claimed Hindu is one of the most violent classes in India.
Girija Kumari Tickoo as Sharda Pandit

Sharda Pandit represents all the women, girls, & females who became victims of barbarity being done by militants. Bhasha Sumbli has portrayed it in an amazing manner on screen. The level of acting is flawless. Her character was also inspired by Girija Tickoo who was a Librarian in Kashmir. She was also forced to leave Kashmir because she was a Kashmiri Pandit & had to live in Jammu tents. In late June 1990, she got a call where she was asked to come back to Kashmir and take the salary from school and was further convinced that Kashmir’s situation is now stable. She agreed to the call and went to school and took the salary. Soon after she was kidnapped by terrorists from her friend’s house. After thirty days her body was found in two pieces near a roundabout. In the autopsy report, doctors confirmed several physical atrocities for many days and she was alive when she was ripped off using a chainsaw.
BK Ganjoo as Karan Pandit

In an opening scene of The Kashmir Files, Karan Pandit was shot dead while he was hidden in a drum full of rice just because his neighbor disclosed his hidden location to terrorists. This scene is an actual incident that happened with BK Ganjoo who was also a Kashmiri Pandit. BK Ganjoo was a telecom Engineer and was a father, husband, and son. He was shot dead in front of everyone in his family. His wife was forced to eat her husband’s blood-soaked rice to save the rest of the family.
Kashmiri Pandits as Pushkar Nath Pandit

National Award Winner, Anupam Kher played Pushkar Nath Pandit who represent the class of 1000s of Kashmiri Pandits who were terrorized and forced to leave their homes from Kashmir in 1990. All the sufferings and traumatizing events that happened with him is what every Kashmiri Pandit lived during the genocide and mass exodus. These people are still in the hope to return their homes one day and live peacefully even after 32 years.

Krishna Pandit is brainwashed and confused character who is fighting for freedom but doesn’t know freedom from whom? So he believes what he hears, he believes what he sees. He went to Kashmir to complete his grandfather’s last wish where he finds out some most disturbing truths about his parents & brother’s death.
Krishna Pandit is like us. We also get confused with the things that come around us and make opinions based on half-cooked facts presented by the media or government.
