I will explain to you in the simplest language what exactly happened. Twitter, a public listed social media company on US Stock Market will get delisted and will be privately owned by Elon Musk. Some major changes will undergo on the basis of how Twitter functions. So, let’s discuss the reasons why Elon Musk wants Twitter so bad.

Elon’s 2 Main Objectives Behind Twitter
- Free Speech Platform: To make twitter a platform for free speech.
- Spam Account Removal: To clean Twitter of all Spam accounts that troll & harass other Twitter users.
There is also a third reason which is kept hidden from the public. Elon Musk doesn’t want people to know this reason. What is that reason? I will be telling that reason to you very soon.
Why Buy Twitter?

Twitter is neither the top Social Media earning Platform nor it does have the highest number of users among other competitors. Last financial year, Twitter made $5 Billion in FY 2021-2022 and gained 2017 Million, daily users. This number may look large but hardly sits in any corner when we look at others’ numbers as below:-
- YouTube made $28 Billion in the last FY 2021-2022.
- Amazon made $30 Billion.
- And Facebook made $117 Billion in the last Financial Year.
Twitter is not that special in terms of its growth & profitability. But still, Twitter is quite special. It is the only platform that didn’t become a video platform after Tik-Tok’s ban. Twitter is still the same as it was introduced. Twitter was a micro-blogging Platform. Twitter is a micro-blogging platform. Twitter will be a micro-blogging Platform. Twitter is one of the few places where Written Textual Content is King. And every user (big or small) is a creator. From politicians to celebrities, all can be found on Twitter. Every Government has its own official Twitter handles.
Ordinary people can get attention from celebrities or high-performing Twitter account users. Even celebrities can know what is happening outside in their fans’ world on a real-time basis. Elon Musk himself is very active on Twitter. He has more than 80 million followers. He is amongst the top 10 most followed Twitter accounts.
Just a few days ago, he purchased a 9.2% stake in Twitter and became the largest shareholder in Twitter. But he did not join Twitter’s board and realized even after his investment, Twitter will never promote free speech until it becomes a privately owned company.
Elon figured out a huge problem with Twitter and wanted to solve it. The problem was Freedom of Speech. Twitter often admits that it promotes safe, inclusive, authentic conversations. But many a time, we have encountered a distinct bias on Twitter. Narratives filled with hate and propaganda become viral & popular. In fact, Jack Dorsey Twitter’s founder admitted Twitter is full of biases.

For Example, Twitter permanently banned Donald Trump on the other hand Taliban’s Twitter handle is still active. It doesn’t matter if you agree with Trump’s views or not but banning an acting President of the USA is a gutsy move. It clearly goes against the concept of free speech.
Elon Musk considers himself a Free Speech absolutist. He believes there should be capping on free speech but only countries can put limits on free speech & that too only if Twitter is operating in that country. Twitter as a free speech platform does not have the authority to decide the meaning of free speech in its own way. And decides what opinions should be on their platform & which ones shouldn’t. Elon believes that letting the algorithms decide what content will work should be made public.
But what is the Hidden Reason Behind Twitter’s Buy out?
We all know that Elon Musk can bring wide fluctuations in crypto prices with just one tweet. He can generate or destroy crores of wealth. In short, Elon Musk is the world’s biggest financial influencer of today’s era. Elon Must is such an influential person that before making any financial tweet, he needs to take permission from SEC (Securities & Exchange Commission). Because people make decisions under his influence which can cause a lot of ups & downs. Elon likes this power and does not want it to go out of his hands.
There is a saying, Power Corrupts, Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely.
Only time will tell what Elon Musk’s true intentions are. After finalizing the Twitter deal his first-ever tweet was “I hope that even my Worst critics remain on Twitter because that’s what free speech means.”

The people who agree with your thoughts & views, you’ll anyway support their freedom of speech. But a true supporter of Freedom of Speech who allows those thoughts to exist which as well he/she is completely against. Noam Chomsky once said, “If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise we don’t believe in it at all.”
